On 21 January 2026, Farid Talibov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Japan, met with Yuriko Koike, Governor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

The meeting highlighted Azerbaijan–Japan relations, recalled Governor Koike’s participation in COP29 in Baku, and informed about the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) to be held in May 2026. The sides also exchanged views on climate initiatives, urban sustainability cooperation, and prospects for aviation and cargo connectivity.
